When life knocks you down,GET UP

You cannot discover the purpose of life by asking someone else - the only way you'll ever get the right answer is by asking yourself. ~Terri Guillemets.Though it sounds pretty philosophical but actually is the crux of life. What started this train of thought was the second week of October.

It was 4th October when I got a visit from one of my friend whose house had been robbed off in the morning. She wanted to call up her relatives since they didn’t have any cell phones and also their phone had been cut off by the robbers. It was a shock for us when we heard what had happened. What she related was:
Around 5 masked men came in their home in morning (around 4:30 or 5:00) and stayed there for 2 -3 hours. All of them were sleeping and suddenly her father woke up. He saw gunmen standing at their head who told them if they want to live don’t make any noise .Then they put a bed sheet on everyone and tied up each person hands using clothes. Then they asked them where the money was. They told them and even then they kept asking them and threatening them with the gun that if they don’t tell they will shoot her daughter .Then, they searched the rooms. After like a hour which amounted to a century they closed the room where all the family was sitting and told them not to make noise otherwise when they leave people will get hurt and won’t be any use .Then they asked each family member to forgive them and told them it’s really necessary for them to do robberies as they don’t have any other choice. My friend and her family waited till they could hear no sounds and then they opened the bedroom door and saw everyone had left. The whole house was in terrible condition since they had thrown out everything from each cupboard and drawer.”

When I saw their home it was like straight from a movie in which they show a house after robbery. Every room had been searched with all the contents of cupboards thrown out. In the initial days it was hard for them to forget the trauma they had endured and in fact it was hard for my friend to sleep at night ……Prayers were the only solace for her ……………They were enveloped in their own misery and tranquility was hard for them. Karachi was again looking like a hell place to live with no security no sense of peace .All the people I knew began to relate horrible robbery incidents .It was a great relief that no one had been hurt and only money had been lost when we heard all those terrible stories

Then on October 8th earthquake struck in northern areas of Pakistan …It was truly a calamity of large degree.Seeing those victim faces and the destruction caused by the earthquake made us forget what had been happening in Karachi and gave the realization that anything can happen anywhere and you can never be sure where what will happen. The earthquake brought lot of destruction but what it also bought was a purpose for all Pakistani to unite; you could actually feel everyone is trying in their own ways to help out in any way possible .Some gave out money while other gave food, medicines and clothes .It was a week which bought every single Pakistani together to help the victims of earthquake. People from all arenas of profession helped out.

This was what made started me thinking what I want out of my life: wealth, money or just the thought that I lived my life fully with no regrets for doing any injustice. It also made me realize that life isn’t just about building up life for you self rather even just trying to keep people happy around you is what matters. All the material possession loses their values if and only if you are surrounded by people who love you are your friends no matter what. So let’s pledge to try to be the helper not the helper getter. The scale on which you maybe working can be small but it will increase with time.
So I depart with this thought:

When life knocks you down, try to land on your back. Because if you can look up, you can get up. Let your reason get you back up.

Adios,
Noreen

but yeah time is the best healer in some cases..i wish i cud b as optimistic about stuff as u r ( or u portray to be :P)
Bravo!
The "get up" wala sentence reminds me of my teacher whose favourite senetnce was "Get Up n Get Out " :P..
"let ur reason get u back up " ..have to think of a good enough reason first ..;)

Once it was my dream to visit northern areas of Pakistan..esp Kaghan,Swat,Naraan.By going to these areas u can actually feel tht how beautifull nature is.But it can b worse at the same time..leaving nothing...all those exotic, facinating greenery ov the northern areas have turned into graveyard… ……. Alas! Visiting northern areas will now remain a dream as there z nothing worth seeing over there
Noreen.ur blog has depth in it. Terri Guillemets z right to say that we cannot define or elucidate the purpose ov life……
To me we cannot explain life..unless we face unheralded situation… the answer can be found in the dictionary of other people. For e.g take the victims ov earthquake..it left nothing except corpses lying under the concrete rubble. It literally flattened all the northern areas. And now here we are with the whole Kashmir generation loss, that cant be fulfilled.Ask the victims n they will tell you that how their life turned into hell, and how their dreams shatterd by the earthquake.
Life z just like nature……..it can be harsh and it can be nice, polite n peacefull.
So what I need out ov ma life z peace……

I cant resist quoting here that:

When I hear somebody sigh that life z hard ,im always tempted to ask compairable to what!

Nice message for readers, it was really thought provoking, how you picked a story which we usualy read in news papers and it never hits our feelings or thought but you presented and concluded it in a really great manner.
What to say else, big cities have big problems, i remember karachi was rated as one of the worst top ten cities of the world to live :) (really, i agreed) but that is not the alarming to me, the only thing i most concern here and for which i would like you to write something as well is the situation of justice. Not only by the state to the ppl, but by ppl to ppl and by ppl to their own selves.

Anyway, nice artile noreen.
